Heavy security in Rawalpindi for Eid Milad-un-Nabi

RAWALPINDI: City administration and police high-ups have finalized an elaborate security plan and deployed heavy contingent of police and paramilitary forces in the city to avoid any untoward situation during the celebrations of Eid-e-Miladun Nabi.

In this connection, high security alert has been declared in the sensitive areas of Rawalpindi and its adjacent localities to avert possible terrorism on this day of festivity. District Coordination Officer (DCO) Rawalpindi Imdadullah Bosal has imposed section 144 in the city and banned pillion riding on routs of processions, near the processions and in other areas of public gatherings. Talking to Daily Times, police officials said a high-level meeting of relevant authorities was held for maintaining law and order in which participants reviewed security measures. Police sources said the security planners and experts belonging to intelligence and investigation agencies attended the meeting, which decided to strengthen intelligence networking of police and develop coordination among different intelligence agencies.

They said plainclothes police would be deployed around the processions. All SPs, SDPOs and SHOs have been directed to ensure thorough checking of all vehicles moving along the routes of Eid-e-Milad processions to avoid any untoward incident.


The deputy commissioner has directed the officials concerned to stop people from standing on rooftops. Police officials informed the meeting that over 6,000 personnel of police, paramilitary forces and Elite Force would be active to keep peace during the holy day. They said special security arrangements had been adopted in sensitive areas of the city. Routes of the Eid-e-Miladun Nabi processions would be protected stringently, the official source said. The sources said that all possible security measures were being taken.” Sanitation and water supply: Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) will make elaborate sanitation and water supply arrangements for processions. Metal detectors will be used for body search to ensure safety and security of the participants, the sources added.

No unauthorized vehicle will be allowed to join the procession and organizers of processions will strictly observe timing and route limits. They said all exit and entry points of the city have been reinforced and strict checking of vehicles has been augmented.

1,267 processions: In Rawalpindi, 1,267 big and small processions of Eid Miladun Nabi are being taken out. The main processions will pass Jamia Masjid Road, City Saddar Road, Mall Road, Peshawar Road, Jhelum Road, Airport Road, Highway Road and Fawara Chowk in Raja Bazaar. Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) would also remain alert to provide emergency cover to participants of these processions. More than 350 rescuers will perform special duties in district control room, emergency rescue stations, 14 fully equipped emergency ambulances, 12 fire-fighting vehicles and rescue and recovery vehicles.

Traffic plan: SSP Traffic Dr Muhammad Azam said to ensure security of participants of Milad rallies, entry of trucks or tractor trailers is banned. In order to avoid any untoward incident, he directed the traffic wardens to keep a vigil on suspicious elements and vehicles with tainted glasses. The SSP traffic also said that the roads leading to DAV College Chowk, Fawara Chowk, Raja Bazaar, Bansawala Chowk and Banni Chwok would be blocked for all kind of traffic due to Eid Miladun Nabi procession, while the traffic would be diverted to other routes.



Civil Defence: DOCD Rawalpindi issued a high security alert orders to all volunteers of Rawalpindi to provide support to all security agencies including Police and Rescue teams. Civil Defence Volunteers will remain alert as they always provide the best duties in the city.
